Domes of Hope by TobiasRoetsch Domes of Hope by TobiasRoetsch

The idea behind the image:
Caused by ongoing pollution more and more forest are dying. To ensure a livable existence of a small elite of people biospheres with a working flora and fauna have been built everywhere. The question is how long such a two-class society is able to survive...

Good Lord... this is amazing. I especially love the lighting effects: they perfectly convey sunset/twilight in a world that is so ravaged by pollution and climate change that society's elites are hiding their worthless selves inside domes. When the s#$t hits the fan, history repeats itself as a small group of society uses its dwindling power and influence to create hidey-holes for itself rather than aid the majorities that always get screwed over at the end.

On a more technical note, the lighting on the domes is simply fantastic: to me they look like evil jellyfish that siphon what little life remains on Earth. This situation can only grow worse, as evinced by the flock of birds fleeing as the smokestacks at the back keep belching out death and devastation on all living beings. The two suns shining above promise nothing good for Earth and its inhabitants, human or otherwise. This truly is the twilight of mankind and all other living creatures.

All things considered, you've done one hell of a job here. Somebody should put this in massive canvas and send copies to Shell, BP, the GOP and all other organizations and scum that persist in wringing the life from our planet in their insane quest for wealth and power. Hopefully we'll be able to turn the tide around before thigns go irrevocably sour...

Absolutely incredible concept! I can certainly imagine this happening much closer to home, one day... And it is that sombre thought that really drives the meaning behind this picture home. I adore the lighting and shadows, and the contrast between the smoky cities to the clean domes.

I love the lens flares (better than the Abrams variety >;}  ) + the slightly out of focus tree in the foreground -just like a photograph! And all the contrasts! Wildlife in flight/technology-spawned ships zooming around the domes + darkness despite 2 suns + the dullness of the natural light/limelight of the elite. Just really great -it brings so many ideas to mind. This is definitely making me feel the muse!

Great piece but not a good look at the future.  However you seem to see the glass as half full.  Good for you.  Thanks.

Two suns wouldn't be helping reduce the greenhouse effect at all either :faint: The bio-domes look unique and appealing in their design and colour scheme :)

Nice contrast in the painting!

And a very ugly social scenario.  It reminds me of "Elysium," only instead of a space habitat you have the bio-domes.  I suspect there will be a lot of social tensions down the line, and some of them will be very violent.
